Jiu Tong Deng, titled after her dad’s name in plain English, is a work about the artist's experience as a first generation Chinese Australian and the implications of these experiences; the juxtaposition of values, belief systems, ways of communicating and experiences between her and her parents. This is painted within the backdrop of the Australian colony, the necessity to work and the confines of a life lived in this way.
